To make AI UGC ads, lock one AI creator's face in a multi-angle reference set, script short creator-style concepts, generate each concept natively in 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 and 16:9, and animate the best frames into short clips. Label the content as AI, and never present the persona as a real customer with real experience.
Key takeaways
- AI UGC is user-generated-content-style ad creative (selfie angles, casual settings, direct-to-camera hooks) starring an AI-generated creator instead of a hired one.
- Consistency is what makes it work. Ad sets test many variants, and the creator has to look like the same person in every one.
- Shoot every placement natively: 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Stories, 4:5 for feed, 1:1 for square, 16:9 for YouTube and X.
- Stay on the right side of the FTC. AI avatars aren't banned in marketing, but fake testimonials are. An AI persona can demo or present a product. It shouldn't claim experiences it never had.
- Label it. TikTok, YouTube and Meta all have AI-content labels.
What is AI UGC?
UGC (user-generated content) originally meant content made by real customers. In advertising it now also describes a style: phone-shot framing, natural light, a creator talking straight to camera, a product in hand. AI UGC produces that style with an AI-generated creator, so a brand or agency can make dozens of hook and scene variants without booking a shoot for each one.
The catch is identity. If the creator's face drifts between variants, the ad set stops reading as one person, and performance comparisons get muddied because you're testing a different "creator" each time (that's our reasoning, not a measured result).
Is AI UGC legal? What the FTC says
In the US, the FTC's Rule on the Use of Consumer Reviews and Testimonials took effect on October 21, 2024. FTC staff guidance says the rule has "no blanket prohibition on the use of AI-generated avatars in marketing," and is drafted so as not to prohibit virtual influencers. However:
- an avatar's message can count as a testimonial, and a testimonial is prohibited if it's fake or false, for example misrepresenting that someone used a product or what their experience was;
- avatars can still be deceptive under the FTC Act even when the rule doesn't apply;
- using a celebrity avatar without permission to praise a product would violate the rule (FTC Q&A; 16 CFR 465.2).
What that means in practice: write AI UGC as a presenter or demo ("here's how this serum's dropper works," "three ways to style this jacket"), not as a fake customer review ("I've used this for six weeks and my skin cleared up"). This isn't legal advice. Have counsel review claims for regulated categories.
How to make AI UGC ads: step by step
1. Lock the creator's face
Build one persona and lock it before you write a single ad. In IBCreator, the Persona Vault generates a 6-angle turnaround (Front, 3/4, Profile, Back, Macro Close-Up, Full Body) in one pass. That gives every future scene the same reference. Our demo persona RoxyRespawn, a virtual UGC and gaming creator, is built this way. New to this step? Start with How to Make an AI Influencer With a Consistent Face.
2. Write 5–10 concept briefs
Each brief needs a hook, a setting, an action and a call to action. Classic UGC formats include:
- Unboxing / first look (product reveal in hand)
- Get ready with me (routine with the product in context)
- Problem → solution demo (show the product doing the thing)
- Three ways to use / style it
- Desk or room setup tour (gaming, tech, home)
3. Generate every placement from one scene
Paid social placements want different shapes. Generating each one natively keeps heads, hands and products in frame:
| Ratio | Typical placement |
|---|---|
| 9:16 | Reels, TikTok, Stories, Shorts |
| 4:5 | Instagram and Facebook feed portrait |
| 1:1 | Square feed and carousel tiles |
| 16:9 | YouTube, X and landscape placements |
IBCreator's Batch Studio renders all four in parallel from the same vault. At 4 credits per Basic photo, one scene across four ratios costs 16 credits. In Pro 4K mode (10 credits per photo), it's 40.
4. Animate the winners
Turn the strongest stills into motion. IBCreator animates persona images into 8-second Google Veo 3.1 clips: Veo 3.1 Fast costs 55 credits, or 65 with native audio, which is available on Pro and Agency plans (pricing). Use 9:16 for vertical placements and 16:9 for landscape.
5. Check consistency before launch
Put every variant next to the vault's Front and Profile views and check eye spacing, nose, jaw, hairline and distinctive marks. One off-model frame can make a whole ad set look fake. The full checklist is in How to Keep an AI Character's Face Consistent.
6. Label, disclose, deliver
- Turn on platform AI labels: TikTok's AI-generated content setting (TikTok), YouTube's "AI use" disclosure (YouTube), and Meta's "AI info" labeling (Meta).
- If the persona posts on its own account for a brand, disclose the paid relationship (FTC Disclosures 101).
- Deliver to the client. IBCreator exports straight to your Google Drive.

AI UGC vs hiring UGC creators
| AI UGC | Hired UGC creator | |
|---|---|---|
| Variants per concept | As many as your credits allow | Limited by the shoot and the contract |
| Same face across months | Yes, if identity is locked | Depends on the creator's availability |
| Real product experience | No. Present or demo only | Yes, and they can give genuine testimonials |
| Turnaround | Minutes per batch | Days to weeks (varies) |
| Disclosure | AI label + paid-relationship rules | Paid-relationship rules |
Many teams use both: real creators for genuine testimonials, and AI UGC for high-volume hook and scene testing.
